Guide: Game Mechanics
Hobby of the Duke's Daughter » Devlog
This section is divided into two parts: shared game mechanics & newly introduced game mechanics.
This game shares most of its systems with Genma’s Magic Academy Adventure. If you know those, you’ll know the bulk of the first section.
Shared game mechanics
Keywords: TECH (techniques, aka skills), DIS (Distance), dmg (damage)
[Unit Element]
- Unit Element can usually be identified by its body/eye color
- All enemies have an element
- Most party members do not have an element, only recruited monster allies have an element
[Elemental Damage]
- Red, Orange and Yellow deal bonus damage vs Green, Blue and Indigo (ROY>GBI)
- Green, Blue and Indigo deal bonus damage vs Violet and Ultraviolet (GBI>VUV)
- Violet and Ultraviolet deal bonus damage vs Red, Orange and Yellow (VUV>ROY)
[Enemy DIS]
- If not kept in check, each lost DIS stack grants a foe an extra action
- Red, Orange pushes back vs Yellow, Green (RO>YG)
- Yellow, Green pushes back vs Blue, Indigo (YG>BI)
- Blue, Indigo pushes back vs Violet, Ultraviolet (BI>VUV)
- Violet, Ultraviolet pushes back vs Red, Orange (VUV>RO)
[Recruiting Monsters]
- Most monsters drops an item that can be converted into an ally or TECH-granting equipment; this process is reversible
[Unit TECH]
- Some allies have unique active/passive TECH that can be studied through the ‘Skills’ Menu
[Exploration]
- You will usually need to spend resources (in this game’s case, monster bait) to unlock new areas
- Depending on the bait’s quality, you can increase the rate in which the required amount is reached
- Bait Quest Value: Meager Bait (1), Nice Bait (2), Great Bait (3), Giga Bait (30)
- Bait Gold Value: Meager Bait (10), Nice Bait (20), Great Bait (30), Giga Bait (1000)
[Equipment]
- Monster drops can be converted into equipment (in this game, they’re known as ‘Backup’ equips) which grant elemental TECH
[Enemies]
- Through each explored area’s ‘Battle’ menu, defeated foes can be refought (even bosses!)
- Some ‘Battle’ menus have to be scrolled down to see all available refights
Newly introduced game mechanics
[Elemental Damage]
- Units gain +1-6 dmg roll when using TECH that shares their element
- Elemental TECH is hard to come by without recruiting monster allies/using their ‘Backup’ equips
- (The only other source is Tear Gem Rings from the ring shop)
- If you are having trouble against some foes, it is most likely due to the DIS mechanic giving your foe extra turns; use elemental damage to push them back, reducing their total actions!
[Recruit]
- Aside from Wights, Dungeon beasts (aka foes from ‘Odd Portal’ Area) cannot be recruited
- Monster item drops can be exorcised, causing them to be lost, but gains you Bait in return
[Exploration]
- Outside of the dungeon, you can temporarily bypass bait requirements by using at least 1 bait to explore the next area early
- Using bait in your inventory allows you to upgrade its quality by using the main character’s levels as a resource
- Depending on day count, if the level of the main character, Erishark, is too low, events occur that restrict player access to exploring areas by introducing an optional boss encounter
- While undefeated, these boss encounters slowly drain the player’s resources every time they go to explore
[Equipment]
- For the most part, equipment is gained through shops
- Pricier equipment has additional effects and better dmg potential
- Each hit from TECH gained from Weapon Equipment uses damage rolls, so damage output will vary
[Enemies]
- In combat, only monster foes will reveal their passive abilities
- Other types of foes will have them completely concealed
